Drilling Without Anesthetic (And With Pain)
I distinctly remember that when I was a child (before puberty), circa 1960, my dentist *never* gave me Novocaine or any sort of anesthetic prior to starting the drilling. Instead, I just grabbed the arms of the dental chair and hung on for dear life. When the drill would hit a nerve, I would flinch but remain seated. My mom would be standing... more »

clenching vs grinding
Clenching is not the same as grinding. Group function and balancing side function can cause grinding, but I have no answers for preventing clenching.

NTI causing anterior open bite
I know that Boyd says about this developing in less than 5% of cases. Wondering what is the frequency of this happening to the pros on this newsgroup? John

Periodontal Disease
I am 64 yrs old and relocated to New Mexico from California. My first visit to a dentist here resulted in the dentist refusing to do any dental work until I resolved my periodontal issues. I had some cleaning and scaling from the periodontist, but he said I would not be "good to go" unless I had a bone replacement surgery, which my... more »

Piercing Pain in Front Upper Tooth
About an hour ago I was walking outside and out of the blue, tooth #8 got a sharp, piercing type of pain. I felt a similar pain last week in tooth #10 but not quite as bad. I do get these pains over the years but tonight it hurts more than usual and not steady, just zings. When I press my right sinus area next to my nose, it hurts a little. Tooth... more »

How much can a bridge cost?
Hi there. I just have a tooth pulled (bottom. 3rd one from the rear) and now I have a gap. What can I do to fix as I do not want to have a gap. I heard that I can get an implant which cost many 1000s of $ or a bridge where the front and back teeth get a crown attached to a fake tooth in the middle. I need this to look 100% real and I am worried... more »

Dental work in a 'Gray Area'.
I'm a 64 male who recently went for a dental check up. I was told that I I'm overbrushing and have exposed teeth at the gum line that need a coating put onto eight teeth. I'm a national health patient and was told that this cost is not covered by NHS because it's * Cosmetic *. When I said, " if it's cosmetic then does it really need to be done? ". She... more »
